Available Daily; 9:00am - 03:00pm (approximate end time). Visit Chiang Mai's most sacred temple, Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep. This temple was built in 1383. It is located 16 kms from the city and 3,500 feet above sea level. During the afternoon we will show you how Chiang Mai craftsmen produce their handmade goods and you with be given the opportunity to purchase some as souvenirs for return trip home.

Description:

At 9:00am or 3 pm an English-speaking guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel or guest house.  Visit Chiang Mai's most sacred temple, Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep (1383 AD).  Located 16 kms from the city and 3,500 feet above sea level the temple features a beautiful golden pagoda which contains the holy relics of Lord Buddha. This temple and its golden chedi attract Buddhist pilgrims from all over the world throughout a year. You can enjoy the panoramic view of Chiang Mai City and the Ping valley from the summit of Doi Suthep.  The temple is approached on foot by climbing a steep 306 step stairway that is flanked by giant mythical Nagas (Serpents), which symbolize humanity's progress from earth into nirvana.  The temple also has an tram for those who prefer not to make the hike up the stairs.  Lunch will be provided a local restaurant. 

During the afternoon visit Thailand's most popular center for quality, handicrafts. The artisans there produce an extraordinary range of quality products, which are invariably the first choice among shoppers.  On this tour a visit is made to the handicrafts center at Sankampaeng district. The highlight is to see the local people making hand made products including lacquer ware, silverware, hand-woven textiles including silk and hand-painted cottons, fine teak wood carvings, and umbrellas or paper parasols which are hand-painted in a variety designs.

Description:

Our guide with pick you up from your hotel or guesthouse at 8:30am or 1:30pm or 8:30pm for the start of your tour where you will depart by Tuk Tuk.  First, you will explore the canal that surrounds the old city and stop at historical gates such as Chiang Mai Gate and the popular Tae Pae Gate to see the remains of the guard walls that used to protect the city from foreign invaders many years ago.  Next you will enter the Old City and make a stop at Wat Chedi Luang.  Meaning “Temple of the big stupha” this temple was constructed during the 14th and 15thcenturies and was the home of the famous Emerald Buddha which can now be found in the Grand Palace of Bangkok.  During the year of 1545 an earthquake destroyed the top 30 meters of the temple.  Although most of it has been repaired much of the damage around the lower edges of the temple can still be seen today. 

After leaving Wat Chedi Luang you will make a stop at the 3 Kings Monument before visiting the silver temple in Chiang Mai, The temple was first founded in 1501 under King Mengrai and given the name Wat Srisuphan Aram and this temple has renovated in 2004.  This is most important in the temple is a silver-coloured building which shimmers in the sunlight and the Ubosot is using alloy and zinc-silver.
Chiang Mai’s silversmith tradition and workshop. Wat Srisupan is an important centre for handicrafts and helps to preserve the silversmith tradition of this area of Chiang Mai. Techniques are handed down to the new generation of silversmiths at the Ancient Lanna Arts Study Centre (known as Sala Sip Mu Lanna) and visitors to the temple are encouraged to see the artisans at work.

On your way to your final destination, Warorot Market, you will see where Chiang Mai’s Sunday Market and the famous Night Bazaarare located. Then explore the vast Warorot Market where many of the cities local residence do their shopping.  Find items such as fresh/dried fruit and vegetablessouvenirs, fireworks, clothing, fresh seafood, jewelry, watches, beauty supplies, a large flower market and much, much more. The prices here are the lowest in Chiang Mai.  

When you are finished your Tuk Tuk will return you to your hotel or guesthouse at approximately 11:30am or 4:30pm depending which tour you decided to take.

09:15 Start cycling from here via Padad-Singhakam route passing Padad Tai village along the Ping’s Riverside then continues through the 2nd ring road crossing Koh Klang Bridge (Kourmung).

09:30 Stop at Wat Koh Klang, an important temple of this community.

10:00 Visit McKean, A Leprosy Rehabilitation Center which is in charge of the Church of Christ in Thailand where people give and express their love to God. Admirably, there, people have been caring and helping each other for more than hundred years. Get around the hospital’s compound and enjoy purchasing many lovely souvenirs at the handicraft center belonged to the hospital.

10:30 Proceed cycling to the vegetables plantation belonged to the villagers which is the trend of sustainable agriculture. Over there, the land has been reclaimed without using any chemical fertilizer. Instead, the farmers prevent and eliminate pests by using natural process. Explore around to see plantations of cabbage, chili, corn, eggplant, pea, shallot, and garlic for examples. Next, continue cycling a bit more to see various types of fruits such as banana, mango, and etc. Also if you love to join the gardener’ activities likes cultivating, watering, and fishing, these are something quite interesting to do as well!

11:00 Leave for the Informational Centre of Wiang Kum Kam to get some background information of the ruin city. Wiang Kum Kam is the ancient underground empire of Lanna kingdom built by King Mang Rai where many ruin archeological excavations and sites for instances temples, Buddha images and old potteries have been discovered.

11:30 Further biking through the village viewing Wiang Kum Kam in general. Make a first stop at Wat Chang Kum (also known as Wat Khan Tom), the first archeological site which was found in 1984. Keep on traveling to Wat E-Kang, Wat Nhan Chang, Wat Pu Beai, Wat Pra Thart Khaow, and the last temple, Wat Chedi Liem (also known as Wat Ku Kam Luang). Appreciate the enormous facet pagoda restored many times both by the Thai and Burmese consequently which shows a lot of mixture on the architecture’s style on the Chedi itself.

12:30 Return to Trekker camp and transferred to the hotel.

Chiang Mai City en tempel tour

Visit and explore four revered temples in Chiang Mai. All was constructed during the Lanna period; each reflects the glory, splendors and nobility of a rich historical era. In the West of the city lies Wat Suan Dok built by King Kuena, the large white chedi towers above the numerous small ones and contains the ashes of the Lanna King and the remains of many generations of the old Chiang Mai Royal family. A short distance from Suan Dok Gate (Western Gate) is Wat Phra Singh first built during the reign of Phra Chao Kham Fu (1328-1335). The temple’s compound includes the Lai Kam Chapel and the abbot of this important temple is the head of the local religious administration. Lying smack in the heart of the city (almost right in the middle of the square-walled city) is Wat Chedi Luang, the large Chedi (the biggest in the city) behind the viharn was constructed by King Saen Muang Ma around 1401. Originally 90 meters high, it is now a mere 40 meters as the result of an earthquake in 1545. A small building near the main entrance encloses the “Sao Intakin” (spirit of the city). Last but not least is Wat Chiang Man, lying in the Northern part of the old walled city; it is the oldest temple within the city walls. Constructed by King Mengrai (1296-1311) the founder of Chiangmai, it is said that the king spent his last years in this temple.

Drive around the old city to see the moat surrounding it and the ruins of the city gates. Then visit the largest central market, Worarot Market, alive with its daily hustle and bustle. Exotic fresh fruits, preserved food, local delicacies, clothes galore, flowers and other nick knacks, all at reasonable prices.

Tour Itinerary:

The trip entails a pleasant 15 km. wildly driving up 3,500 feet above sea level to visit Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, the most sacred temple in the city. You then exercise your heart, lungs and limbs (perfect for couch potatoes and those with beer belly) by ascending the 306 steps to the temple, guarded by two magnificent Nagas (serpents) and constructed in 1383; this symbol of Chiang Mai contains the holy relic of the Lord Buddha which is enshrined in the magnificent, glowing golden pagoda. A bird’s eye view of the entire city and the surrounding areas can be seen from the temple grounds.

Continue by local truck along a bumpy mountain road to visit the White Hmong hill tribe village. It’s a scenic route. Doi Inathon National Park Tour Chiang Mai

08:30  - Lying south of Chiang Mai, the granite mass of Doi Inthanon, 8,500 feet above sea level, is the highest summit in the country. Doi Inthanon is the tail of Himalaya mountain range, designated as a national park, the moist natural environment is a paradise for birds as it has almost 400 species, animals, flowers and faunas.

10:30 - After a final steep drive, the summit is surprisingly flat though misty, cool and breezy. Walk shortly to see a small Stupa contains the remains of Chao Inthawichayanon the last independent ruler of Chiang Mai who died in 1897 after Lanna Kingdom was combined to be a part of Siam. Enjoy exploring around Ang-Kha Nature Trail at the highest peak viewing beautiful Fern & Moss as well as White & Red Rhododendrons (bloom only during Jan – Feb).

11:30 - Visit the Twin Pagodas built by the Thai Air force in honor of their Majesties King and Queen for their 60th Birthday Anniversaries. A visitors’ center nearby contains tourist information both in Thai and English.

12:30 - Stop on the way down to shop at Hmong Tribal Market who trade various kinds of vegetations, temperature fruits and flowers from their own farm.

Amazing Chiang Dao Village

Description:

Drive to the north of Chiang Mai (approx. 1 hour) and visit the Elephant Camp.  At the camp you will enjoy seeing the elephants taking their morning bath and demonstrating their skills at pushing and pulling logs.  Afterwards take an elephant ride for approximately 1 hour.  The ride will take you along the river where you will be surrounded by the lush green forest scenery that makes Northern Thailand so beautiful then you will relax on a bamboo raft, float along the river, and continue to take in the peace and tranquility.  The trip will last approximately 1 hour.

Remark: The activities at the elephant camp are flexible program.

After the rafting journey, we'll stop for lunch then drive a bit further up north to the Chiang Dao Caves and take a walk around this unique temple where you can see a multitude of fish swimming in the beautiful ponds just outside the cave. Then explore the caves and they temple that lies within.  There are many Buddha images, stalactites and stalagmites, and different features for you to see.  Like most caves you can explore in Northern Thailand, we recommend you get hire a local tour guide who will walk you throughout the cave with the aid of a gas lantern.  For a small fee you get a navigator and plenty of light for your photographs. Later in the afternoon, we will go to Bua Tong Waterfalls for a refreshing swim. Get wet and have fun by climbing to the top of the limestone formation.

Spend about 40 minutes joining the group purchasing fresh ingredients (chicken, prawns, herbs & vegetables) for the class as well as learning to know about tropical vegetations which is quite interesting! 

09:50 Continue to Baan Hong Hual, situated on Chiangmai –Lam Pang Road, only about 15 minutes away from the market. 10h15 Arrive and get briefly introduction of Baan Hong Nual which is an open kitchen in Lanna Thai style. All students will be then given aprons and headdresses as cooking uniforms. 

10:30 Wash hands and get yourself ready for the 1st menu. However, before you start cooking first of all you would be introduced about all the kitchen utensils as well as the seasonings normally needed in the Thai cuisine. Secondly, you’ll be shown how to prepare all the ingredients also how to cook. During the class the instructor still teach you intentionally step by step. After the 1st menu is done, you’ll be given a time to taste how delicious is your food. 

11:00 Continue cooking the 2nd dish that needs about 30 minutes to finishing including preparing, cooking and tasting. 

11:30 Take a small break for about 15 minutes for some tea, coffee or herbal drinks (complimentary by the school). Or students can spend time to walk around seeing herbal & vegetable plantations as well as different kinds of fruits like Longan, Mango, Rose Apple, Guava, Lychees & Jack Fruit.

Khantoke Dinner

our Itinerary:

19:00 - Transfer from the hotel for Khantoke Dinner.

19:15 - Relax in an informal atmosphere whilst dining on delicious Northern Thai Cuisine called “Khantoke” signifying a Pedestal Wooden or Rattan Tray used for serving food by Lanna Thai peple. The menu usually consists of "Gaeng Hang Lay" (pork curry cooked with garlic, sliced ginger, peanuts and red chili paste), "Nam Prik Ong" (minced pork cooked with chopped garlic, onion and red chili paste), "Cab Moo" (crispy pork rind), deep fried chicken & banana, stir fried mixed vegetable and fresh & soft boiled vegetable. Among many choices, these dishes are eaten with "Kao Nieow" (sticky rice). Tuck in and eat to your heart’s content.

20:00 - During the meal, a Traditional Northern Musical ensemble will play soothing music while charming dancers will entertain you with the Fingernail Dance, Dandle Dance, Sword Dance and Ramwong or Thai Dance. There’s also a selection of Hill Tribes Dances performed by the Akha, Yao, Lisu and Karen tribes rounds up this entertaining evening. At the end of the show if you get the urge, let’s join Ramwong Dance which’s great fun to try!

Wat Chalermprakiat: The Temple (Almost) in the Sky (Lampang)

This is a must see in unseen temple in Thailand, located at Jae Hom district in Lampang province. Some 165 km. or about 2:30hrs drive from Chiang Mai
Wat Chalermprakiat brings us closer to the heavens – or to the sky if you wish.
You will have to walk up 20-30 minute to the pagodas at the top. It’s almost entirely uphill and much of the way is on steel staircases, there are lots of places to rest on the way up and take photograph. At the top absolutely stunning and breathtaking views and this is a highlight.
The mountain tops and cliffs are dotted with a number of white stupa and temple structures, the materials for which was all carried up the hill by hand. The temple is may look like some ancient temple but it was actually built in 2004 to commemorate 200 years since the reign of King Rama IV of Thailand.

This is an amazing and beautiful place to visit and I highly recommend it to all.

Street art at China market in Lampang

Lampangluang temple

Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, One of the best examples of Lanna architecture in Thailand. The temple itself is prominently sited on a hillock surrounded by walls. The entrance arches, called Pratu Khong, is adorned with fine plaster designs. The wall-less main vihan (ordination hall) houses a bronze Buddha statue called the Phra Chao Lan Thong. At the end of vihan (ordination hall) is a place where golden chedi in Lanna architectural style containing a Holy Relic situated. Also in the back of the temple, there is another vihan (ordination hall) with beautiful murals on wooden walls, said to be the oldest in the North. The temple also has a large collection of ancient wooden utensils.

Bezoek Lamphun vanaf Chiang Mai

Tour Itinerary:

08:30 -  Leave from the hotel in Chiang Mai towards the southern part (26 kms). Lamphun or Hariphunchai is an ancient Mon empire founded in 660 A.D. and is the oldest existing city in the kingdom.

09:00    As you enter the city, the remnants of the old fortified city walls and the surrounding moat, constructed in the 16th century, are still evident.

09:30    Make a first stop at the principal temple of the province, Wat Prathat Hariphunchai, a Royal Temple built in 897 by a King of Lamphun. The temple is notably with a massive 51m Golden Pagoda enshrines the authentic relic of the Lord Buddha from India. In the same compound there’re Buddha Footprint, Teak Wood Library which houses many ancient Pali Scripts as well as an old Lanna Style Chedi and a huge call-to-prayer Gong.

10:30    Visit Wat Jammathevee, named after Queen Jammathevee the first ruler of Haripunchai or very well known among local people as “Wat Ku Kut” meaning the Chedi that has no top due to the lightning strike.

11:00    Proceed to Pa Sang village, a community of Cotton Weaving Industry.

11:20    View around the village seeing how cotton is woven by means of a traditional type of wooden loom also enjoy purchasing fine quality cotton which’s a good souvenir from Lamphun.

12:30    Return to Chiang Mai.

Chiang Rai - Gouden Driehoek - Mae Sai van Chiang Mai

our Itinerary:

07:00 - Start from the hotel in Chiang Mai driving along a wildly route via Doi Saket through scenic hills, valleys and villages.

08:15 -  A short break is made at Mae Khachan Hot Spring and continue to visit the famous White Temple

08:45  - Proceed to Chiang Rai province.

11:00 -  Visit Akha & Yao hill tribe villages in Mae Chan area. View around taking pictures of tribal villages & people who still dress up in their traditional costume as well as purchasing some cheap crafts from them. As the Akha especially is still a very poor people then, extra money is normally asked if you’re taking their picture anyway if you’re still happy to do that please negotiate with them before.

12:00 - Continue to the ancient town of Chiang Saen, the capital of the kingdom until 13th century before King Meng Rai, the founder of Lanna Kingdom moved the capital to Chiang Rai. At that time the Myanmese also arrived and started to occupy the area, Chiang Saen was then totally destroyed and became an abandoned city for many decades.

12:40 -  Visit Wat Chedi Luang, almost 800 years old temple also one of the most important temples in Chiang Saen that was also destroyed and left abandoned.

13:00  - Further drive along the Mekong’s River Bank to The World Renowned, Golden Triangle, the mystery land in the past related to the Drug Trade and War.

13:15 -  Buffet lunch at the restaurant.

14:15 -  Drive up a small hill to a scenic point at Wat Pu Kao for a picturesque view over the Mekong River and the meeting point of 3 different countries; Thailand – Laos – Myanmar.

14:45 -  Then, take a short walk from the temple down to the Opium Museum where questions and curiosity about the Opium are replied.

15:15 -  Go on travelling to Mae Sai, a bustling market at the border town with Myanmar and the northern most point of Thailand.

15:45 - Shop around for some precious stones particularly Jade from Myanmar as well as Chinese Goods that are shipped along the Mekong River down to Thailand.

16:45 - Head back to Chiang Mai.

20:45 - Arrive and transfer to the hotel.

Doi Suthep en handwerkindustrie   


De Wat Prasart Doi Suthep ligt op 1300 meter hoogte in het Doi Pui National Park. De fraaie tempel, een bezoek meer dan waard, ligt 16 kilometer van de stad en is te bereiken over een steile, bochtige weg. Een 300 treden tellende trap, met Naga's (mythologische 7-koppige slang) als leuningen, leidt het laatste stuk naar de tempel. Is deze trap niets voor u dan is er ook een lift! Bij helder weer heeft u een mooi uitzicht over Chiang Mai.

Hierna brengen we met een offtheroad truck een bezoek aan een (nogal toeristisch) dorp van de Hmong, een van de bergstammen van Noord-Thailand.

De plaatsjes Bor Sang en San Kampaeng, even buiten Chiang Mai, staan bekend om hun handwerkslieden. Een bezoek aan een aantal werkplaatsen is een 'must' tijdens een verblijf in Chiang Mai. We vinden hier onder meer zijdeweverijen, zilversmeden, houtsnijwerkplaatsen en lakwerk- en celadonfabriekjes. Hier worden ook de beroemde parasols gemaakt en beschilderd. Een grote tuinparasol kost hier zo'n 20 euro! Bij een combinatie van beide tours is een lunch inbegrepen.


Karen Hill (langnekken) en andere bergstammen vanaf Chiang Mai

 

Een dag vol avontuur door het prachtige berglandschap van Noord-Thailand. Eerst een rit door de Mae Rim en Mae Tang districten langs rijstvelden en sinaasappelplantages met een schitterend panoramisch uitzicht over ontelbare Thaise en Birmese bergen, bedekt met dichte jungle.

 

We stoppen bij een orchideeën- en vlindertuin waar u kunt genieten van deze exotische bloem, waarvan er in deze omgeving zo'n 473 verschillende soorten bestaan. We vervolgen onze tocht en gaan op bezoek bij een aantal bergdorpen waar verschillende stammen zoals de Akha, Lisu en Palong wonen. U maakt kennis met hun traditionele manier van leven.

 

Tijd voor een heerlijke lunch in een lokaal restaurant voordat we terugrijden richting Chiang Mai. Maar eerst brengen we een bezoek aan het beroemde Chiang Dao grottencomplex. In een van de grotten in dit 12 kilometer diepe grottenstelsel staat een marmeren Birmees Boeddhabeeld. De gids gaat u voor en we laten u de directe omgeving zien.

 

We gaan verder en sluiten deze enerverende dag af met een bezoek aan de wonderbaarlijke Langnek & Langoor bergstammen. De Langnek-vrouwen, gekleed in kleurrijke traditionele kledij, dragen bronzen ringen om hun nek en de vrouwen van de andere stam hebben zware zilveren ringen in hun oren. Niet alleen vanwege de traditie maar ook om hun schoonheid te tonen.

 

Na al deze belevenissen rijden we terug naar uw hotel in Chiang Mai.
